Testing Requirements

Indianapolis Teaching Fellows requires all accepted applicants to take and PASS the Praxis I and Praxis II to be admitted into the program and start teaching in 2008. These subject assessment tests measure knowledge of specific subjects that K-12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. We strongly encourage you to register, study for, and take the required tests for your subject area(s) as soon as possible.

If you wait until the last administration of the Praxis II, you may be made an offer which will require you to complete a number of enrollment steps before you know if you have received a passing score, which means that if you do not receive a passing score you will not be allowed to continue with the program/begin teaching.  For this reason, we strongly encourage you to register for the Praxis I exam as soon as possible and to register for the Praxis II exam, if you are invited to interview, as soon as you have received detailed testing information with your interview invitation.  All candidates accepted into the program will be required to produce passing scores by the following dates:

  • Praxis I – Passing scores no later than June 5,2008.
  • Praxis II – Passing scores no later than June 5, 2008.

The Praxis I Exam

The Praxis I exam assesses reading, writing, and math skills, and is administered by computer at a designated testing center.  We strongly recommend that candidates register for the Praxis I as soon as possible because testing centers fill quickly.  (If you are interested in taking the Praxis I paper-based, please contact ETS for more information.)

The Praxis II Exam

The Praxis II is a group of subject area tests.  Fellows must take the Praxis II test that corresponds with the subject area for which they are eligible to teach.  If invited to an Interview Event for the program, candidates will be notified of the subject area for which they are being interviewed and will receive additional information regarding which Praxis tests they will need to take.  Praxis II tests are only paper-based and can only be taken on an official testing date.  Please note that candidates often find the Praxis II exams challenging; thus, it is essential that candidates study and prepare for their required exams thoroughly.

The following are the Praxis II exam numbers required for each subject area:
