Make a Difference

If you are looking for socially meaningful work, a way to end educational inequality, or even an avenue to give back to the community, you are clearly someone who wants to make a difference. Indianapolis Teaching Fellows is designed to give individuals like you the opportunity to make a difference by enhancing the delivery of public instruction that is provided to students in Indianapolis.

In the 2006-2007 school year, a little more than ½ of IPS students received a satisfactory score on the math portion of the ISTEP exam, while the average passage rate in the state of Indiana was 74%. What is also of major concern is the district’s graduation rate of 50%. These numbers clearly indicate that many students are being left behind. Without the continued recruitment of teachers who are highly qualified, culturally competent individuals dedicated to improving student achievement, we will continue to leave students under prepared for the futures they face.

Multiple studies have proven that teacher quality is one of the single most significant determinants of students’ success. With this knowledge in mind, the Indianapolis Teaching Fellows program focuses on recruiting, selecting, and training talented and successful individuals to shape the future of education in Indianapolis.
