Fellow Profiles

Jim Carpenter

“I became a Teaching Fellow because I want to make a difference in the lives of our most needy children.  I have spent 30 years using my math skills as an engineer and want to share these skills with IPS students. I firmly believe that IPS children have the right to a solid education and that we, as Teaching Fellows, are responsible for ensuring that they receive this education.  The combination of Summer Institute training and practice teaching has prepared me to begin my teaching career.  An additional two years of classes at Marian College will lead to me being a fully licensed teacher.  I am truly grateful to be part of this important program.”

After having a successful career in engineering and medical development for over thirty years, Jim made the transition to teach in IPS with the Fellows program. He is teaching Math at Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet School.

Morgan Wescliff

“All individuals involved in this initiative, be it from IPS, Marian College, or the Fellows themselves, have demonstrated their passion for education and a drive to make a difference that is inspiring. This inaugural cohort group is a diverse community of high achievers with backgrounds in the military, business, social work, and many others. We are innovators and motivators who push each other, as well as those leading us, to be the best teachers possible. We support one another to ensure all of us succeed as a means of creating a culture of excellence. I have found a new family with ITF and I am excited about my opportunity to create that same feeling with IPS students this fall.”

Morgan worked as a Classroom Assistant with IPS for a year and a half prior to becoming a Fellow. He is teaching special education at Brookside Elementary - School #54.

Tim Martin

“After spending eight years in higher education administration, I discovered the Indianapolis Teaching Fellows program.  They gave me the opportunity to pursue a career path I thought had been closed to me:  teaching in a high school classroom.  A rigorous summer training program and an intensive summer school teaching experience has left me feeling exhausted, wide-eyed, and thoroughly excited to begin teaching in my own classroom this fall.   This experience is one I would never trade and would recommend to anyone considering taking the plunge into a teaching career.”

Before becoming a Fellow, Tim worked in administration at Indiana University’s School of Law for eight years. He is teaching Chemistry, ICP and Earth/Space Science at Arsenal Technical High School.

Carol Stone

"I am so happy to have been chosen to be a part of the Indianapolis Teaching Fellows program! Over the last few years I had looked into other 'transition to teaching’ programs but none presented nearly the same level of opportunity and benefits as ITF. The design and structure of this program made returning to school practical and affordable and the experiential nature of the program is fantastic. By being placed in a school right away, we are learning and experiencing the 'real world' of teaching and working with urban youth immediately. This is so invaluable! I feel that with continued mentorship and support from ITF, IPS, and Marian I will make a phenomenal contribution to the education of our community's children. I am thankful to have this opportunity and plan to make the most of it!"

Carol worked as a case manager and Camp Director before becoming apart of the Fellows program. She is currently teaching Elementary Special Education at Paul Miller Elementary - School #114.

Rosalilia Stewart

“I have been with IPS for most of my twenty-six years; first as a student and for the past four years as a Bilingual Assistant. Due to a strong desire to educate my community, I looked into transition to teaching programs. The ITF program came at the right time and has met all of my high expectations. The intense structure and relevant information is preparing me for my new venture into teaching. Overall, I have enjoyed participating and truly appreciate the opportunity to be with this cohort of highly motivated and inspired people. I am excited to step into my classroom and ready to expand the minds of our IPS students.”

Rosalilia worked as a Bilingual Assistant in IPS since 2004 before coming to the Fellows program. She is currently teaching Spanish at Arsenal Technical High School.
