Build a Career

Indianapolis Teaching Fellows offers you both the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Indianapolis students and to further your own professional career. As a Fellow, you will earn a teaching credential and connect with driven, like-minded individuals who share a sense of urgency in addressing one of our nation’s most pressing issues—ensuring that students achieve rigorous academic goals.

Fellows are able to start making an immediate impact in their classrooms, while completing all credentialing requirements and developing as professional educators. In addition to earning a regular teacher’s salary, Fellows will earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from Marian College.  Fellows will be continually enrolled in and will successfully complete all required university coursework towards their teaching certification within two years.

In addition to the direct benefits, there are also indirect benefits of working as a teacher.  Most teachers work with subject matter that they enjoy and are passionate about. Teaching Fellows will teach in critical shortage areas where their content knowledge and expertise are most needed – math, science, special education, or Spanish. Many teachers even find their love of sports leading them to coach teams or interests in the arts leading them to advise student groups such as the drama club.  Having the freedom to consistently work with material you enjoy is a great benefit of being a teacher.

The mission of Indianapolis Teaching Fellows is to select and train dedicated new educators who are committed to embarking on a long term career in education.  Your experience in the classroom and coursework at Marian will provide you with a vast new skill set and perspective and will afford you the opportunity to impact the lives of the students in your classroom and urban education in general.
